Governor Sarah Palin came on the stage as the first female VP pick for the Republican party. In the beginning everyone saw her as a star. There was nothing that she could say or do wrong.
For some odd reason the McCain campaign decided to keep her from being interviewed by the press. They held two major press conferences that didn't do well to say the least.
Even after feminists began to trash her she stood up on stage with Joe Biden and held her own in a debate that was watched by millions. This seemed to calm the fears of several Conservative Republicans that voiced concerns about her ability to be President.
Saturday Night Live and several news stations continued to slam her on a regular basis but Gov. Sarah Palin remained poised and showed that she has thick skin.
Now that the election is over she meets with other Govenor's in Miami, FL to discuss where the Republican Party goes from here. By all accounts the party has been splintered and needs to decided what its message needs to become.
Love her or hate her you must admire this head strong, God fearing, dynamic, and energetic woman who got slammed on a daily basis by Republicans, Democrats, and Independents alike. To say there is a double standard for women versus men in politics is obvious, but I wonder if this extreme pressure and vetting will change the way we look at women as a whole in power.
Hillary Clinton paved the way for Sarah Palin but who is next? You have two incredible women who stand as polar opposites. Gov. Palin's ideals make it clear that women in political offices are not cut from the same cloth. I think for to long the feminist movement made the assumption that they were fighting for feminists only or that all women are feminists.
It will be interesting to see what unfolds.
